High-Tc Superconductivity
The Excitonic Coulomb Perspective
“Dr. Nie Luo and Prof. George H. Miley propose a superconductivity pairing model based on an intermediate boson, which is a bound electron–hole (e–h) pair. Their model is an extension of earlier Bardeen–Ginzburg-type exciton pairing models on high-Tc superconductivity and is called excitonic Coulomb model (ECM). The authors have developed a unique yet rigorous few-body variational method to show that such an e–h pair indeed gives rise to attractive interaction to two electrons (or two holes), thus leading to the possibility of Cooper pairing. They give detailed procedures for 2D variational calculations, and also for Green’s function formalism and the BdG equations, which can serve as a pedagogical tool for graduate students and specialists who are interested in the field.”
